Sharon P. Katz joined the Harvard Business School as a tenure track faculty member in 2006. He teaches Business Analysis and Valuation in the second-year of the MBA program, as well as several executive education courses, and has previously taught the first-year MBA course, Financial Reporting and Control.
Professor Katz’s research interests focus on equity valuation, financial statement analysis, tax avoidance, and earnings quality with focus on private equity ownership. His research has been mentioned in such publications as The New Yorker, Mergers & Acquisitions Journal, Financial News, Private Equity News, and Directorship. Professor Katz’s research was also awarded the American Accounting Association (AAA) Competitive Manuscript Award (2007), the AAA Financial Accounting and Reporting Section Best Dissertation Award (2007) and the Best Paper in Private Equity at the Financial Economics and Accounting Conference (2008).
Professor Katz served in the Air Traffic Control Unit of the Israeli Air Force, earned a B.A. in Economics and an LL.B. in Law from Tel Aviv University in 1997, completing both Magna Cum Laude, and worked as a corporate lawyer in Israel. He earned an MBA from the UCLA, Anderson Graduate School of Management in 2001, and received his Ph.D. in Business Administration, with distinction, from Columbia Business School in 2006. Prior to studying for his Ph.D, he worked in the Investment Banking Division of Citigroup, specializing in Mergers and Acquisitions.
